Driving school.....no control

I hv enrolled into a driving school......i had my 3rd session today.....all the 3 days, the instructor just made me go in half-clutch + brakes, nothing else......even the steering wheel wud be used by him from the oth seat, i just had my hands on it...zero control.......is this how it is done ???
