Volume forced on

I prefer having my iPhone on mute, but a lot of apps force your volume to be on when certain actions are taken
For example discord forces your volume to be on while a call, is there a way to force this off?
I’ve tried moving the volume slider down, but the gui has the volume slider bounce back up (Genuinely the most evil GUI decision ever!)
I saw a apple support thread that had the same issue but they didn’t get a good response
