Two-week trip specifically to practice my target language.
I’ve always been fascinated with people who can speak more than one language and so over the years I’ve learned a little bit of Spanish here and there.
With my career settling down a lot in my life being more calm, I’ve put a lot of time into learning Spanish, especially the past few months.
In less than a month, I will be in Argentina for a little over two weeks.
I’ve been using Pimsleur during my morning and afternoon commute to work, I’ve had an instructor from Argentina that I’ve been practicing with twice a week, and I go to local restaurants and speak Spanish when I can.
Currently, I can easily get by with survival Spanish. Ordering food, asking for directions, talking about my day, things that I have done and want to do, what I do for work.
I’m currently taking all I know and trying to practice longer and more complex thoughts with original ideas rather than relying on basic memorized phrases.
My speaking, I consider OK. My listening is decent. And my reading is quite good.
I guess the question I have for the group: I’m assuming I will struggle the first couple of days while in Buenos Aires, but can I expect any kind of meaningful improvement in that two weeks?
My initial thought is that at least my confidence will be way better by the end of the trip even if I don’t learn new words, I will be comfortable with what I can speak.
Also, is there any advice you give me on maximizing my learning and immersion experience?
I’ve already set up a few dates via Bumble. They are platonic and they are well aware that I want to just meet people and practice Spanish and be social.
