Why Did He Have Her Passport?

I’m wondering why he was he in possession of her passport at all.

It wouldn’t make sense for her to bring it with her to his place that night.

Is it possible her parents didn’t even know she had one (more fake signatures) and that they were keeping it at his home so that they wouldn’t find it and start asking questions?

Could it be possible they never knew about the international travel at all?
