34M / Transient Osteoporosis of the Left Hip

I’m a 34 years old male and was recently diagnosed with Transient Osteoporosis of the Left Hip (TOH). My MRI showed bone marrow edema involving the left femoral head and neck, but thankfully no fracture or collapse.

A few months ago I had major surgery and spent quite a while recovering with very limited activity. During that period, my weight increased from 86 kg to around 100 kg, mainly around my belly and chest. Once I was able to start moving again, I began doing light gym exercises and walking to lose weight. I lost around 4 kg in one month and was walking around 6,000–10,000 steps every day.

At the gym I wasn’t lifting heavy weights or training legs, as I was still not cleared to do so after the surgery.

My orthopedic doctor has now told me to completely avoid weight-bearing on my left leg for around 6 weeks and use crutches. He expects the bone to take around 8 months to fully recover.

For treatment, I’m currently taking:

* Exapine (Enoxaparin) 4,000 IU / 40 mg injection once daily for 14 days

* Vitamin D3 50,000 IU once weekly

* Magnesium 375 mg twice daily

* ProZem-Forte (Trypsin & Chymotrypsin) twice daily

* Mydocalm 150 mg twice daily

I’m mainly looking for other people who have gone through Transient Osteoporosis of the Hip / Bone Marrow Edema Syndrome and would love to hear about your recovery experiences, especially how long it took to get back to normal walking, the gym, running, and everyday life.

I'm actually a bit depressed because of this, especially after going through a very serious surgery not that long ago.

Thanks!
