Best Sealant for Flaking Dials?

Hi everyone! I have a Bulova Sea King that seems to be perfectly fine mechanically, but the dial is in really rough condition. Paint and the previous varnish is starting to flake off, and parts of the printed on text is missing. I recently saw someone online use an airbrush to apply a thin layer of varnish to try and stabilize a rusting dial, and I would like to try that with mine. Does anyone have a recommendation on what type of varnish or sealant I could use for mine? If it matters, there are also tritium lume pips on the outside portion of the dial that are still intact.
