I'm scared for my future job.
i'm certainly afraid of it, for context i'm an iraqi man studying pharmacy, and if things don't work out the way I intend to, i'm gonna have to work at a pharmacy, now pharmacies here are not like the ones you're used to let me explain
as a pharmacist in a pharmacy(even if i don't own it) i have to,
-
stack shelves
-
inventory checks
-
put price tags (if the place doesn't have a barcode system, most of them don't) or memorize the prices of everything
-
fetch each and every medication for the patient (even minor ones)
-
i have to haggle, yes, haggle with lots of patients, because some patients always want the price less than it is.
6.diagnose patients: patients who can't afford to visit a doctor rely on you to diagnose them and give them medicine, free of charge of course, and if something happens to them, you're to blame for it, even if they didn't follow your instructions or didn't visit a doctor.
- argue with drug addicts trying to get cough medications or something that's innocent enough to use as a medication but still can be abused, drug addicts sometimes pull a gun on the pharmacist if they refuse service, this happened so much that the government legalized gun ownership for pharmacists for self defense.
all of that, all while knowing the science behind the medicine, all while knowing how to diagnose diseases based on vague symptoms all while being social enough to not be tricked by hagglers or drug addicts.
all while knowing each medication and from which country it is made, and all the brands for different medications because if it isn't the exact same one they want, the customers won't accept it.
i once had an elder throw a fit because the medicine i gave him was a pill container instead of a blister packet, same brand, same medicine, even the same dose, but different packaging.
it's worse when they don't know the medicine, stories you'll hear of "give me the medicine that has the guy holding his back on it", "the medicine that the guy holding his shoulder", "i don't remember the name but the tablet was brown and oval shaped!" and my persona favourite "no i do not remember the medicine nor the name, come one, i buy one from you EVERY MONTH" LIKE THAT'S SUPPOSED TO HELP.
all that for a 3.5 something USD per hour, the pay is okay, but you almost always work 6 days a week, i hope i can get a masters or something, i'd love to get an academic job, or an office job or something that doesn't involve all that stress.
