Glycerol + Creatine + Sodium

🥗 Nutrition & Metabolism

About to turn 50, I'm finding that heat regulation is playing a much bigger factor in my performance than in years past.

Our bodies act as giant radiators, and as our max HR lowers as we get older, and we have less perfusion at the skin (narrowing veins, etc), our ability to thermoregulate lessens with time.

I've been trying to combat this through electrolyte consumption, higher water intake, better gear, etc., with varying success.

It was recently suggested to me to try glycerol, and specifically, glycerol with creatine (which I already take), as glycerol promotes hyperhydration and, through its action, increases absorption of creatine into the muscles.

Has anyone used glycerol and can talk about their experiences with it?

Some info:

Combining Cr and Gly is effective in reducing thermal and cardiovascular strain during exercise in the heat without negatively impacting on RE \[running economy\]

Conclusion: These findings indicate that glycerol supplementation enhances key metabolic and physiological factors associated with running economy, including CCU, OCU, cardiovascular responses, and perceived exertion in trained runners.
