dream
rain water rang like windchimes
it left me puddles of gasoline
dancing beneath the honeydew sky—
cobwebs and fishnet
i skipped through like a stone on a beach
across the stream of angels
i heard their melody
voices carried by the rush
a song of affirmation, wonder,
and adolescent fantasy
I was headed some place far and familiar
though I knew not where
to cross the cloudberry fields
I must leap—
bounding without care
pools of milk in my reach
topped with honey—
duplicitous
i spun as it swirled
mind discerning factitious
this worry,
this fear,
i held too close to my heart
it cradled then coiled
unwilling to part
once holding me dear now
only bringing me down
I clawed and I scratched
feet kicking at the ground
but it had me
and
it sunk me down
into the cloudy pool
I was kept there—
fetal
like a lucky penny
or prized jewel
i sank into the depths
now anticipating my doom
but there
just below me
was something out of place
whatever lay beyond
i knew i must face
be it misery,
mercy,
or music of some sort
i allowed my curiousity to
overcome me
my last and final resort
the pool cracked beneath my weight
succumbing to the strength
which remained and
what I saw was not darkness
nor was it disdain
the milk poured out from the cracks
cascading down below
I saw great rolling hills of stardust
and cloudberry fields aglow
the rain still rang like chimes
the stream of angels rushing with
purpose now
their sound,
their song,
how divine!
but the milk pools had curdled
and gone sour
i witnessed there
in the honeydew sky
their final hour
i reached out to touch them
to ease their unavoidable end
but I was far too high
somehow unable to descend
i wept in the clouds
watching the milk pools dry and
my sobs echoed through
the prismatic sky
like that of an angels cry
a song to join the voices in the stream
to sit there with them
once upon a dream
this gleam,
this glimmer,
this ration of hope
it launched me up and out
keeping me afloat
I lay upon the wind
arms outstretched and growing
then came my wings
billowing and unbroken
made of sweetgrass and cherries
woven from all I had known
scented with summer rain
and places—
people
i called home
now I continue my journey
to someplace far and familiar
now i knew where
to cross the cotton candied sky
i must trust—
surrender to the wind that's holding me now
accept the fate of my soul and
when the time comes
take my final bow
I will fly on from this place
how wondrous it is
I will leave it behind me
for i trust in the power of the mind
and my fealty to remembrance
one look upon the moon there when i arrive
and I will see here it's semblance
I will fly on from this place
this wondrous place
i will carry it's memory with me
my saving grace
into the reality it has prepared me for
through sequence of colour, song, and metaphor
I will lay upon the wind
it's gentle breeze guiding me
to places known
I will lay upon the wind
and I will let it
carry me home
- me
