Booking directly on Hotel website or through Third Party?

Hi everyone - does anyone have recommendations as whether to book directly on the website for hotels or through a third party like Booking.com or Klook?

Based on my research, booking directly with the hotel is better for changes and making sure your booking is in without issues but in my experience so far, a lot of the websites to book directly are in Japanese, translated to English and it’s kind of cumbersome and I feel like I could mix things up. Meanwhile, third party’s are a lot more user friendly and very clean on how it’s laid out and booked, as well as for payment.

If third party is better, any specific recommendations?
