Mini 5 Pro vs Air 3S vs Mavic 4 Pro - is the Mavic really worth double?
Part 107 pilot, mostly real estate work but want to venture into more/other drone jobs. Trying to figure out if I’m overbuying or underbuying here.
Prices I’ve found on eBay (pre-tax):
**•** Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo w/ Plus batteries — $1,099
**•** Air 3S Fly More Combo — $1,363
**•** Mavic 4 Pro Fly More Combo — $2,360
Two things pulling me in opposite directions:
Wind. A decent chunk of my work is coastal at the beach or on the water. I’ve read enough to know the Mini is going to be the first one I can’t fly. Curious how much of a real problem that is in practice for people flying near the water — out of these 3 drones will I be disappointed with the minis capabilities? Would the air 3s still handle the wind well or is the Mavic really the only one. I know they all can handle the wind, but the actual stability product from the video differs.
Vertical. Most of what I deliver is headed to social, so vertical matters a lot to me. I really wish the Air 3S did true vertical instead of the 2.7K crop, because on paper it’s otherwise the drone that fits me best. I know 2.7K downsamples fine for IG and TikTok, so my concern is more about framing — losing that taller frame on a two-story house seems like it’d be annoying every single shoot. Anyone shooting a lot of vertical on an Air 3S, does the crop mode actually bother you day to day or did you stop noticing? How does it really compare to the mini 5 pro side by side?
Right now I’m leaning Air 3S since the gap over the Mini is only ~$285 and I’d get the 70mm plus better wind handling. But I keep second-guessing whether I should just buy once and go Mavic, or go cheap with the Mini and upgrade later down the line to the Mavic 4 pro when I start getting higher paying gigs. Any recommendations are appreciated.
Anyone made this same call? Especially interested in hearing from people doing real estate or social-first work.
