Feeling like the 60’s

What is with the apartments these days and not accepting personal checks? Am I crazy to believe that a personal check is legal tender and a verifiable way to do a down payment? People used to shake hands and promise to pay rent on time, now we need to go get specific money orders or cashier checks to pick up keys?? Is no one else annoyed with how it feels like every process in life (apartments, jobs, EVERYTHING!) is MORE complicated than it ever used to be?? What happened to innovation and developing tools, resources, and processes to make life easier?
