What's the point of building walls and protecting your base when you can just revenge raid and get back your stuff + more?

Context: I've been raiding for some time but never actually bothered to protect my base (literally 0 walls). Today it finally came to bite me in the ass and I lost like 10 AKs 50 electrical cirtcuits and more etc etc from raiders. Turns out I get back all my lost loot from the revenge raid AND more (ended up with like another additional 8 guns + stacks of med kits on top of my lost loot). So I essentially profited from not protecting my base? (because if raiders dont steal enough u dont trigger revenge raid (?) + I just save tons of resources and time not building walls). So why do I always see people and creators make a big deal about protecting the base, putting bait chests outside etc etc?
