Can I cross play multiplayer from both java and bedrock?

I (mac user) want to play minecraft with my friends (console players), my laptop is way too old to run bedrock and won't even let me buy it so i got java. I'm just wondering if there's any way to create a hardcore world and play with them even though they're on bedrock 🥺🥺 any help appreciated
