Coming out is it safe?

(Sorry my english is bad) I want to come out o my best friend. And im strugeling with thought. Its only because im nor sure if its safe because he sometimes seems homophobic, but also sometimes not.

Im thinking about if i should test him with questions or something like that to be sure if hes safe. I just cant bare being in the closet anymore its so draining. Fels like my whole existence is a lie. Pls help🥰
