International calls on Kyocera DuraXV Extreme

I’ve got a friend in Spain, who I need to keep contact with, but I’m thinking of switching to a Kyocera duraxv extreme. I’m on verizon MyPlan right now, along with three family members, and since it’s shared I can’t really switch plans. I’m totally fine with buying extra minutes for international calls to add to a plan somehow, I’m not sure how the rates are for that though and what add on would work best (we call for 2 hours a day on average). I also don’t want to make the switch if it requires her to pay for calling.
