Apparently it is impossible to buy a durable mouse
I'm sick and tired of replacing my mouse every few years (currently a G603), just because the switches broke and I got the "double click problem".
Since there is no mouse that meets the following requirements for a durable product, I would like to know my options for a good compromise:
-
Hot swappable or optical MAIN switches + SIDE switches + MMB switch (To avoid the double click problem)
-
Hot swappable or optical mouse wheel encoder (To avoid jitter with the mouse wheel)
-
Runs with AA Batteries (To avoid a degrading internal battery)
-
AFAIK optical switches should not have the double click problem. But they still have a lifetime click amount. So inevitably they will also break, right? So the only options are hot swappable switches, am I correct? What is the better option regarding durability?
-
I'll admit that I never had any scroll wheel issues in the last 25 years (I only used Logitech mice if that matters), but that is probably only the case because my main switches broke before that issue could arise. So I'm afraid that, if I solve the double click problem, I'm running into the next one. How prevalent is this problem? Does it only occur if you push the MMB or does it also happen from normal scrolling?

If I look at the available products I think my best bet is to get a mouse with an internal battery that is easy to access and to replace because this expands my options the most. Is every battery in every mouse just plug and play and can always be easily exchanged? How difficult is it to find the correct model? How long does the battery last, before it doesn't hold a significant charge anymore? I never had a mouse without an AA Battery.
I have narrowed the possibilities down to the following mice:
ROG Strix Impact III Wireless
+++ Hot swappable main switches
++ AA Battery
-- Mechanical Encoder
-- Ugly AF
Logitech G309
+ Optical main switches
++ AA Battery
-- Mechanical Encoder
-- I'm actually done with Logitech because every mouse that I ever owned broke down
Razer Cobra Hyperspeed / DA V4 Pro / Viper V4 Pro
+ Optical main switches
++ Optical Encoder
+ Easy to find replacement batteries
-- Bloated Software
-- RGB Lighting
- Difficult to access screws for battery replacement
-- Twice to 3 times as expensive as the mechanical options
Lamzu Paro
+ Optical main switches
++ Optical Encoder
++ Web Driver
+ Medium difficulty to access screws for battery replacement
-- Twice as expensive as the mechanical options
Alternative:
Since all of the above options still don't address the side switches and the MMB I maybe just have to treat my mouse as a consumable item and buy some cheap chinese clone that I exchange every few years:
Zaopin Z2
+++ Hot swappable main switches
++ Web Driver
++ Easy to access screws for battery replacement
+ Cheap
The Z2 costs half to a third as much as some of the other options above so will they really last 2-3 times longer than the Z2?
What should I do? Are my assumptions correct? Do you have any suggestions? Have I overlooked a specific mouse?
