What I noticed about stuffy air after cleaning the bedroom

One thing I’ve learned after years of working with indoor air is that a freshly cleaned room can sometimes feel stuffier than it did before. It sounds backwards, but I’ve seen it plenty of times.

When cleaning, we stir up dust from bedding, carpets, curtains, and furniture. If the windows stay closed and there isn’t much air movement, those particles can hang around for a while. Strong cleaning products can also add odors that make the room feel less fresh.

I usually tell customers not to judge the air quality immediately after cleaning. Give the room some time to air out, keep the HVAC filter maintained, and avoid kicking up dust unnecessarily while making the bed or moving furniture.

A clean bedroom should feel fresh, not simply look clean. That difference is something I didn’t fully appreciate when I first started in this business.
