Do we value elders advice in this community?
I like to help other trans people when I feel like I can. Especially transwomen. And especially when people are stressing and hopeless. That's one reason I'm here. I'm mtf, and I transitioned a long time ago. I have had an overall successful experience by most trans people's measures of success. Which is to say I don't get misgendered, or disrespected face to face, accepted as my presented gender, cis passing - blah blah blah
I have been living successfully as a woman for so long that I'm fully socialized. I use terms of endearment like girlie, or babe or sis regularly with my female friends and coworkers. I learned it from them. This is how actual women talk. Maybe it's my mistake for expecting a trans person to respond like a typical cis female. Most feminine people enjoy using this kind of language in my experience...Just saying
I got snapped at by someone for calling them "babe" at the end of a sentence in the same way someone younger might say bro or something like that. And after dispensing some pretty solid advice in my opinion. Like, I'm just trying to be friendly and be myself. Seriously, this energy is why cis people think we're a joke. Its obvious that I wasn't fucking hitting on this person. I think they shouldn't ask for advice if they don't know how to reciprocate kindness or appreciate the effort people take to respond to them.
I'm also here on Reddit because as many of us know, cis people can't really understand how it is. Even the greatest allies are left helpless in their efforts to comfort. So I find myself coming here when I need someone to understand.
But I wonder if I should stop offering young trans girls advice. We can't find common ground. Too many are chronically online and have an extremely twisted view of reality. None of them have much real life experience, mind you. I'm tired of getting dismissed by people that are still getting misgendered constantly, haven't started HRT yet and act as if I haven't mastered this shit. Maybe I come off as braggy or preachy. Yes, this post is a bit braggy and preachy... I don't usually have this tone. Maybe I do?
I mean, I'm binary. I like gender roles. I can describe my sexuality in one word. In my mind, I'm a very normal person. I work 40 hours per week in an office with other women. We have potlucks. We talk about our cycles. I don't know if this is even a goal or sounds desirable to young transwomen anymore. Do they even want this?
Where's the others like me? Are there others? I think we fade into the background and distance ourselves from these communities because we hit a wall at some point where people become standoffish...maybe people are jealous or bitter, and even though we can help a lot of them, they don't want our help. They know we're just going to tell them to try harder when they start with the excuses.
It's fine, I'll vent when I need to and I'll keep my advice to myself. Young people famously Ignore elders advice anyway. Especially elders that have gone through it already and have achieved what they still dream of.
