Coming here as what feels like the last hope for my sweet uncle who is fighting for his life right now with liver disease
Hello guys, my uncle is 49 years old and has been in the hospital for almost 2 months fighting for his life. He has liver disease and needs a liver transplant... However he isn't insured. He was just approved for SSDI which is a good start but Medicaid called today and did his interview and says he doesn't qualify. He cannot get Medicare until 24 months after he approves for the SSDI. we are literally grasping at straws trying to find some sort of coverage as Drs will not even assess him for transplant until he has insurance and at this point Drs are saying it's likely too late for him as he's now too sick. He now has portal hypertension, a clot in his liver, low platelets, his kidneys are now failing, he has recurring ascites, they are having to drain his abdomen almost daily. Are there any resources out there??? He's a single male, never been married and we live in Dallas TX if anyone has anything we are just hoping for miracles at this point. Is there a way I can get some sort of waiver for Medicare? It said online there's only a couple of qualifying diesese where he could bypass this 2 year wait for Medicare. Again any help is appreciated. He continues to deteriorate rapidly while his family pleads with agencies to get some help. My uncle worked his entire life. He was never a drinker but cannot get any help from any agencies we've tried so far. We are also in contact with the hospital social worker.
