Worst character?

My wife just introduced me to this show. I like it well enough but one striking thing for me is that the main character (Jess) seems mostly useless and almost completely unfunny. The others like Winston and Schmidt are really funny. Is there subtle charm or something I'm missing about Jess cause I think the show could not have her and be just as good
