Socks with Birkenstocks

Okay hi guys a bit of an odd question:
I just bought my first pair of Boston Birkenstocks & I have been wanting to wear them with socks! They fit me perfectly without socks but they literally stop fitting me when I put on even the thinnest sock I own & start bunching up weirdly. They are brand new so I’m wondering if the footbed would smooth out over time and make it easier but idk please let me know!
