Question about the kasurigama in Nioh 3

So I've been playing with a kasurigama and I feel I'm getting a good flow on the weapon with spacing and times to hit but, strangely it seems like the swing is slightly shorter every so often and what I would believe should hit just doesn't. Is that a thing to worry about or do I just need to get better?
