How much of a noob decision is it to be investing in Heavy Mace proficiencies?

Hello everyone. I am playing this game for the first time. I am on Daring difficulty. I have a lot of experience with old-school 2E DND games (Baldur's Gate, Torment, Icewind Dale) which do seem similar... But I have no experience with Pathfinder.

I am currently level 7 or 8 and just gained my second mythic rank after defeating the boss in the Gargoyle nest. You know, the one where you have to rescue your companions and Irabeth?

My PC is a Tower Shield Specialist. He is one of the premade characters at the beginning of the game, though I have changed his name. Honestly, IDK why, but I sort of just went with heavy maces. I have given him a Weapon Focus, a Weapon Specializaiton and a Weapon Focus Mythic for Heavy Maces.

I sort of feel like this is a decision that would make people laugh at how much of a noob I am. Surely I am meant to be investing into something like warhammers or longswords?

Please tell me if that is a hopeless path!
