Is it selfish to want to make money only for myself?

Is it selfish for me to only want to make money so I can have my own place? I am dying to make enough money to purchase my own car, my own apartment and a little dog of my own. To travel and make new friends. It scares me that this is my one precious life and here I am using it to write a post on Reddit. An honest post though, my parents often felt like my way of thinking was selfish. That I owed them good grades because they supported me. I moved out and they made me feel bad about this as well. I just want to make a major life decision for once in my life and not feel bad about it
