Where to stay in Madrid and Barcelona?

Ok so I have been researching and people saying please don’t use Airbnb but then all I can find is crazy over 200 euros a day for hotel/apartments in Madrid for November (need with kitchen)… any recommendations? Airbnb so far been the cheapest. Obviously I don’t want to be far either. Thanks
