how to interact with children

i have a friend who has a 2 year old child. me and her (friend, not child) hang out a lot and sometimes her kid tags along. which is so fine! i like her kid!

but her daughter is pretty wary of me (fair; i am a stranger) but im worried im making it worse by not interacting with her but i just dont know how to interact with young children. any advice is appreciated lol
