Is it reasonable to veto my (24F) girlfriend's (24F) college friends from coming to our housewarming party or I should just get over it for a few hours?
This is gonna be looong... TLDR at the end.
So, me and my gf have been officially dating for just over a year, together for 1.5yrs. About 2 months into dating I had to find somewhere to live asap and she offered I moved in with her, which I did. Very fast and very risky but it turned out really well, we're very happy with the little life we've built.
Now some context, gf has 3 groups of friends: friends from childhood (4), friends from college (5) and friends from her job/internship (2). She's graduating in about 3 months. This is about her friends from college, as the other 2 groups really like me and I do too.
Her 5 friends from uni (all F, mid-late 20's) never liked me from the get-go. I tried as much as I could but they were dismissive as hell and I just gave up after some months. It was hella weird to me bc all of them had boyfriends/girlfriends and no one seemed to have an issue with any of each other's partners, just me.
Last month my gf found out after talking to a mutual friend she has from outside that group (that apparently everybody went to to vent) it all boiled down to: she stopped hanging out with them after she met me. Which is actually TRUE! Because they never wanted to host anything, plan anything, or even pay for anything! She did the hosting, the planning, and often paid the bulk of expenses on their outings. When we started dating and I moved in, she started suggesting they rotate who hosts, and stopped paying for stuff for them, and that got them angry.
To be fair she was already unhappy with the situation, but it had been going on for over 3 years and she was scared they'd resent her if she stopped. Which, they did get resentful, but with me instead!
It makes me pissed bc I was always like "you should make an effort to see them more" "you should accept when they invite you to go out" "you should invite them to come here" so they wouldn't lose touch... while those ****** were out and about telling people I isolated my gf.
Ngl I had a feeling they didn't like me but to hear they were saying nasty stuff to other people that I knew made me kinda pissed.
Now onto the issue: gf and I are moving to a bigger apartment, ours was too small for the both of us and our small dog, so we're moving to a 2bd across the street. It's our first apartment we choose and are moving to together, and I REALLY want to throw a housewarming party. Only one of her childhood friends will come (others live too far) and both her friends from her job. I only have three really close friends that I'd like to invite, they all love her. I do not want her to invite the college group.
It's too much people in 450sq feet and, honestly, they fucking hate me. I don't want to invite them to a party that's supposed to celebrate a milestone in my relationship because they clearly do not support it.
I don't mind them coming over, my gf can invite them any other time but I really wish this party was just people who love and support the both of us.
She's pretty sad, she is kinda over them already and doesn't think the friendship will survive graduation, but doesn't want to rock the boat and deep down she wishes they'd understand it wasn't my fault. Thing is, they don't. They've made up their minds about it, no matter what she says, so I told her to not even try to fix it. They can still be friends if they do not like me, I just won't be a part of their friendship like I am with everybody else.
So, is it unreasonable to tell her to not invite them, or do I just tolerate it for one night?
TLDR: gf's college friends hate me because they think I've isolated her, which I didn't, they were just lazy friends and she was the one keeping the group together. Is it unreasonable to not want them at our new apartment's housewarming party?
