Looking to start painting Necrons- any recommendations for a beginner looking for mostly metallic/pearlescent paints?

Painting C+C

If I should be posting this somewhere else, please let me know!

So I just got into 40k and I'm like a little obsessed with The Infinite and The Divine and I want to buy a little Orikan and paint him pastel pearlie cutie shit, I have a VERY specific image in mind lol, but my ass has literally never painted before (familiar with techniques and all but never done practically because I always assumed I was dogshit at painting and small detail work)

I'm in MA so if anyone knows a good hobby shop in state please let me know, otherwise I was looking at the 40k website and just zoning out looking at all the paints... No clue how to choose them... I have an idea of what colors I'll need though, I did go to art school, if only briefly.

Probably a pearlescent white, magenta (red leaning), teal, yellow (basic color mixing starts I suppose, if they exist) a lighter silver tone and a gunmetal or otherwise black metallic color. I know at least three of those are feasible, I think trying to find dedicated pastel paints is kinda stupid if I can make due mixing. Also I wanted to use a glow in the dark or otherwise fluorescent paint for the bulbs because it seems cool.

Also, is paint thinner universal, or do you need specific ones for different brands? What's the recommended primer? Necrons have a lot of little edges and harsh lines, any advice for a beginner? Do people use masking much, or paint before assembling?

Thanks!
