eBay iPhones

I'm seeing a lot of iPhones on eBay with simple problems:camera blotches, etc. is there any reason I wouldn't be able to use them as simply a monitor, or even a touch monitor for a pipboy-esque cyberdeck?? (I really don't want to hear about taste, I want to hear about doablity and hopefully methodology)
