Am I being Frauded/Scammed or just weird coincidence?
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve had several strange things happen involving my personal information and business card, and I’m trying to figure out if these are concerning or not and what I should be doing about this.
I’ve received two legitimate emails from Geico with the subject “We reviewed your credit report.” Both contain my correct name and address and the body said “Important Notice Regarding Fair Credit Reporting Act.”
1st email received 8/13: quote dated 8/6
2nd email received 8/20: quote dated 8/13
The quote numbers are different, but the IHCCREF number is the same. I am not currently and have never been a Geico customer. The last time I personally requested a GEICO quote was around 2024.
I called Geico after the first email. They told me the quote was requested by a third-party and was computer generated. They flagged the quote as possibly identity theft, I think? So that no one can move forward with the quote.
The email says LexisNexis provided information to Geico, so I contacted LexisNexis. They said they don't see the request because it might be too recent to appear on my report and suggested I call back in a few days.
I called again on 8/17, and it seems that it still didn't show up, and they are going to mail me my report.
I did switch my auto insurance from Progressive to State Farm about four weeks ago. State Farm told me they do not run anything through Geico.
I've also had two weird incidents of suspicious bank activity on my business card that happened in the last 30 days, one was a deposit of $15 from craiglist and then they took it back, i dont have craigslist. Then last week Microsoft charged me $21.57. I dont have my business card info stored with Microsoft.
I'm unsure if it's all coincidences or if this is a sign my information has been sold/stolen.
Is this geico thing normal??
