My friend 17F was sexually abused, how can I help her?
few days ago a boy (13M) whose mother was very close to her family came to stay with them for a few days. his mother and my friend’s mother had been childhood best friends, so the two families had always been extremely close. they would often travel together and stay at each other’s houses overnight as they were from kolkata.
whenever they stayed together, everyone had their own separate rooms. there was never any reason for my friend to think she wasn’t safe.
one night, while she was completely asleep in her room, the boy came into her room and put his hand inside her pants and touched her. She woke up screaming and crying, bringing everyone into the room.
what happened afterward just horrible . nobody believed her. the main argument seemed to be that he was “just a kid” he denied doing anything and said he would rather k*ll himself than ever do something like that. she was devastated because it felt like everyone immediately became more concerned about his wellbeing than about what had happened to her.
her parents told her to forget about it and act as if it had never happened. her mother was especially close to his mother because they had been best friends since childhood, and my friend has always felt that preserving that relationship played a major role in how everything was handled.
instead of confronting what had happened or supporting her, her mother sent her to therapy because she supposedly needed “help.”
i believe her mother should have supported her daughter regardless of the consequences for her lifelong friend’s family.
i’m not looking for anyone to attack anyone involved. i’m really worried cause she hasn’t come to school in a week and calls me crying everyday. how do i as a friend be there for her?
