What did a Civil War era squirt guns look like?

Sherman famously said, "You might as well attempt to put out the flames of a burning house with a squirt gun," reflecting on the challenges of the Civil War.

This quote has always baffled me because the idea that squirt guns existed at that time is kind of funny. Anyone know what a Civil War era squirt gun looked like?
