Wishful Thinking Afternooon

(A work of fiction) In a city by the river, the sun hung lazily over the horizon.

If you stood on the bridge and looked toward downtown, you would see a busy city with everyone's day almost done, an afternoon in the big city.

The traffic fights for position, and the stoplights keep all reigned in.

I was to meet her in a corner Cafe where we once before shared stories and a warm embrace.

Right on the corner, down from the financial district of a busy and well-traveled street.

I thought of this place and her all day.

The hour of our meeting was well upon me as I rushed to find a parking place near the Cafe.

The pipes were warmed up and made a rumbling sound as I edged the Dodge into a place, to tight for a large sedan but doable. Put in in park and the engine rose to 1000 rpm and I shut it down.

Adjusting my shirt and brushing the cigarette ashes off my sleeve I made my way to the Cafe.

So much I wanted to tell her and thought I would burst open before I got to the front door.

There she was at our table, well our table from now to further notice anyway.

The sun came in through the windows to capture her soft brown hair and the color of her eyes wete visible me at a fair piece away.

I rushed through the door greeting the waitress as I passed her in my way to the table.

I smiled as she returned it and sat infornt of the most beautiful woman in this man's world, I reached out my hand to find hers as a warm, firm grip from us both. A kiss on the cheek like they do in Europe and we began talking.

To be continued;
