Trichlor vs Cal-Hypo Pucks

We have had a pool before, but now have a much smaller pool…only around 5,500 Gallons. We were running the chlorinator too hot and CYA went off the charts. Drained the pool and switched to Cal-Hypo pucks in a Floater. I am constantly battling pH drifting high every single day. I add muriatic acid at night…morning measurements are back in line and then every single day pH goes back above 8 by 7PM. Am I better off switching back to Trichlor and just dialing it way down, or do I continue the daily Acid treatments?
