Hexmaxxing with Great Old One Warlock
Originally was thinking of making a "mute" character and picked Great Old One Warlock for the ability to cast lots of spells without verbal components indefinitely/resource-free. But, having not looked into the subclass since 2024 in one of Treantmonk's videos, I read about the L10 feature buffing Hex as well as the Shadowmoor Hexer origin feat, both of which give added utility to the Hex spell. Adding in Maddening Hex and Relentless Hex, and added casts of the spell from the likes of an Enspelled Staff or a Ring of Spell Storing accruing unused free 1st-level castings, and it potentially develops into a potent resource that
- Lets you teleport to the target to cross distances or escape bonds - great if used with a familiar
- Gives you a reliable bonus action to either do some AOE damage if you don't need to move the spell
- Damages enemies who hurt you
- Adds more damage to your own attacks, scaling very well with either EB or two weapon fighting
- Wrecks their skill checks and saving throws with no save, great for burning legendary resistances
I'd be open to suggestions on the best way to maximize building around the spell further, whether focusing on weapons or just EB as usual. EBARB feels like a pretty basic setup, but also very invocation-heavy, whereas making a warlock more weapons-proficient requires more feats that detract from maximizing charisma (I'd prefer not to multiclass if it can be avoided, to keep spellcasting progression and extra attack invocation progression on track).
