Thoughts on Pleroma and Desire
More specifically, on what seems like a common assumption about the importance of shedding desire in order to properly ascend.
That assumption is that desire is inherently wicked and therefore so are earthly activities which inspire it or are inspired by it. For the sake of this I will refer to sex and romantic love.
So, it seems to me that many therefore see this mandate as a rejection or condemnation of sex and romantic love. They envision therefore the reality of the pleroma to be devoid of sex and romantic love.
I assert that this is false, and can show my work a bit here.
Consider first (and refer to if you must) just how profound and expansive the Monad is described to be. It is so much so, that it's pretty much the only thing texts like the Apocryphon of John refer to as indescribable and incomprehensible.
However, the adjectives they do see fit to use are highly, highly positive by their linguistic standard.
Now, it is simply true that if you have a genuinely consensual act which is not only mutually positive, but has literally no negative effect on anyone or anything, that is a positive act. Even if it is a rare thing in this world, there are absolutely instances of sex and romantic love which fit such criteria.
Therefore, if sex and/or romantic love did not exist in the pleroma, it would be lacking positive things which do exist in the Demiurge's creation. It would mean that the Kenoma has at least one facet which is superior.
I reject that, personally. It is the creation of the Demiurge which is described as "the deficiency" after all, not the Pleroma.
I think it may aid some to release the problematic earthly desires and passions to have faith in a genuinely superior creation.
