AITA for sleeping with another girl after my girlfriend broke up with me right before her trip to new York with her friend.
I’m just going to lay out all of the baggage at once that made me constantly think my girlfriend was unfaithful whenever she had the chance.
At the beginning of our relationship, I had just gotten out of jail and was living with my sister, her husband, and my two nephews. I started working at the same restaurant where her husband worked and met my girlfriend there. We hit it off by playing games together, and things were going great.
About a month into the relationship, I caught her texting in a group chat with five different guys and another girl. Four of the five guys in that group had received nudes from her in the past and were still hitting her up. She had also had sex with one of the men. Because of that, I made sure she stopped involving herself in that group.
About two weeks later, I went to work, and while I was there, she texted me asking if she could hang out in my room until I got off. During a small break, I tried calling her, but she didn't answer. I called again because she was usually very quick to pick up, and I was worried that something had happened to her.
When she finally answered, she was winded and slightly moaning, almost as if she had been having sex. Later that day, I found out that my sister's husband had also been home all day because he was supposedly "sick."
When I got home, I initiated sex with her. She eventually gave in, but I couldn't feel much of anything. After that, I started noticing that she and my sister's husband would have little side conversations, and whenever someone else came around, the conversations would completely stop.
The Second Situation
This happened much later, maybe about a year into the relationship. She got a new job at a different restaurant, and around this time, she became much more aggressive and disrespectful toward me.
Eventually, I got hired at the same restaurant. I started noticing that some of the cooks there absolutely hated me, even though I had never done or said anything to upset them. I'm an extremely hardworking person, and everyone knew that whatever station I was working, I usually didn't need much help.
I also noticed that one of the managers clearly did not like me. For some reason, though, my girlfriend and this manager were extremely comfortable talking to each other.
I worked there for about six months, and things just weren't adding up.
There was one moment when my girlfriend and I joked about her being pregnant. The manager who didn't like me asked what we were talking about. She leaned closer to him and said something about being pregnant, and I watched the color drain from his face.
A couple of weeks later, another manager told a different cook a secret. After that, anytime I mentioned that my girlfriend was difficult or hard to deal with, this cook would completely agree and tell me that she wasn't a good person.
One day, while I was working a station that was tucked farther back on the line, I overheard the manager who didn't like me talking to that same coworker. The only part of the conversation I could make out was that a female had come up to him after closing and asked if he wanted to have sex in the back of her car.
That didn't sit well with me at all.
In the past, my girlfriend had told me that many of her previous sexual experiences involved having sex in the back of her car at other jobs or while she was out somewhere because her mother would kill her if she were caught having sex at home.
The Third Situation
My girlfriend, her friend, and I were supposed to go to Rockville. The day before, I hung out with a friend of mine, and when we get together, we drink extremely heavily, although we are very safe about it.
The day of the concert, I ended up with alcohol poisoning and couldn't go. She went with her friend instead.
I asked her how the concert was, and they told me they had a great time. About a week later, one of the other cooks at the restaurant mentioned that he had gone to the concert as well and had seen my girlfriend and her friend there.
Before I found that out, my girlfriend had shown me all of the pictures they took at the concert. Somehow, she left out the huge detail that they had seen this guy and hung out with him.
A couple of days later, I jokingly asked her if she had fucked the guy at the concert. With a completely straight face, she told me that she had and said they fucked in a porta-potty.
Later, we were playing Call of Duty with the same friend she had gone to the concert with. Completely unprompted, her friend asked me if I would ever have sex in a porta-potty.
The conversation I had with my girlfriend in the car had been private and was never mentioned to her friend.
The Fourth Situation
About a month later, we were both off work. Right after I fell asleep, she decided to drive to Walgreens to buy me flowers and herself a Mountain Dew, just because.
We had a gas station much closer to us, and they sold flowers there as well.
I became suspicious and checked the large trash bin outside of our apartment. I was the one who normally took the trash out, and whenever I did, I would look through the bin for anything that might still be useful. I'm the kind of person who believes that one man's trash is another man's treasure, so I would occasionally find things that were still perfectly good.
What made this situation stand out to me was that I had already taken the trash out earlier, so I knew exactly what the bin looked like. When I went back to look through it after she had gone to Walgreens, everything was exactly the same as it had been before—except for one thing.
Sitting right on top of everything was a Walgreens bag with an empty Plan B box inside of it.
That was essentially the basis for everything I had to deal with throughout this relationship.
How We Eventually Broke Up
The main reason we eventually broke up was because I got with another girl after my girlfriend left for a trip with her friend.
Her friend had gotten pregnant, and because the abortion laws in our state had recently changed, they planned a trip to New York so her friend could have the procedure.
Before she left, my girlfriend and I were already not on the best of terms. Honestly, my feelings for her were pretty much dead at that point.
Right before she left, she broke up with me. On the day she was leaving, she told me not to cheat on her. I explained that I wouldn't because we were no longer in a relationship.
She continues to bring what happened afterward up, and I understand where she's coming from. I know what it feels like to love someone and then experience them having a sexual connection with someone else.
The girl I got with was a coworker. I genuinely had never talked to her, tried to start a conversation with her, or hung out with her before. She wasn't my type, and I never would have considered giving her a thought.
When my girlfriend left, I invited everyone over to my house for a little get-together where we could swim and play games. Somehow, by some miracle, everyone ended up being busy and couldn't make it except for her.
I wasn't in a relationship anymore, and I had this opportunity in front of me. We hung out, drank, and one thing led to another.
At the time, I think part of me used her as an opportunity to move on and get away from everything I had been dealing with.
But then something unexpected happened.
I fell hard for her.
Everything felt so much calmer. Conversations were easier. We could actually talk through problems and concerns without everything turning into an argument. It felt like we genuinely respected each other.
And for the first time in a long time, I didn't feel like I constantly had to question what was happening behind my back. Am i the asshole for switching up and getting with the girl I've never cheated and don't consider this cheating. Every time my ex and i hangout its a constant conversation trump card over anything and its quite frustrating.
