AITAH for insulting his friends and calling them perverts?

Sorry for length in advance!!

Okay so, I (21 F) like to do FPL (fantasy football), given I like watching football and I like the whole strategic planning that goes behind making your team. My boyfriend (23M) also does FPL and during the season, it becomes an entertaining point of our weeks to compare our points after each gameweek. We have great fun being competitive with one another about it, because he tends to be loyal to his club, which sometimes is at the detriment of his fantasy team (Man United, lols). When I met his friendship group last year, BF had told them about our FPL battles and they wanted me to join their league, which I did. It had been an unceremonious press of a button one evening, when we were all having a drink together, and that was that.

At the end of the season just gone, I came 3rd out of 12 in their league. BF had told me along the way that they have rewards and forfeits for top 3 and bottom 3, and I'd said to just leave me out of it. It turns out, 3rd place prize was having all drinks paid for during one night out. I don't really much beyond two drinks anyway nor do I like a heavy night out anymore so as to take advantage of all-drinks-paid-for, so I told BF to just tell his friends that 4th place could have it. That had been cashed in sometime during July, I'm told. I'm also told by BF that, after that night, two of BF's friends had been bitching to him about how I shouldn't have even joined the league in the first place if I was going to 'pussy out' of their prizes and forfeits, and how apparently, my being there ruined the whole thing as 4th-place-friend got the prize when he was undeserving of it. In any case, I didn't like that there was some discussion about it, because I thought it was all in good fun - and from how BF said it, those two friends were genuinely pissed off, albeit it was drunken convo. I haven't spoken to those two friends beyond outings with BF.

Secondly, there is another guy in that group (23M- T for our purposes) who BF is best mates with, and who I would say I'm also friends with, rather than just being friend-of-BF. Now, T had dropped that 11th place forfeit was a naked run down the street and how T suspected that some in the group hoped I was just arse at FPL and so I would have to do that. BF said that he didn't mention it to me because there was no way in hell I was going to do that anyway nor would he have let his mates pressure me into it, so it was a non-issue. I agreed there - it is a non-issue so as to warrant any more convo about it, though it did make me a little uncomfortable.

However, with those two incidences combined, I did not want to join their FPL league this coming season. So I didn't. BF wanted me to though, because he had told me he liked how I was into the same hobby as he and his friends, and wanted me involved. But I'd already gotten gross undertones from a few of his friends from the aforementioned incidences and was uncomfortable with it, so I said no, but obviously we'll still do our own league, just the two of us. That was always a given.

When he checked my team yesterday, he saw I was in two other leagues. One is a workplace league. One is a league with my uni friends. My league with uni friends are all guys apart from me. Upon seeing that, BF said that if I had no issue joining my uni-friends league, I should have no issue joining his friends' league. I said it's not comparable because none of my uni friends would have been so perverted or aggressive like his friends had been last season. I did use the words 'perverted' and 'aggressive' about his friends, which hurt BF's feelings. He dropped it in a 'fine, okay, do what you want' kind of way, and this had been yesterday.

But tonight when I'd called him, he said he didn't like how I'd spoken about his friends, and how I wouldn't like it if he, say, went on a night out with just girls, but refused to go on a night out with me and my friends. Which, granted, is true. I'm seeing him on Friday afternoon, and so would really appreciate a clear view on this situation before I do!

Should I have been gentler about it? And should I just join his friends' league because BF clearly would like me to be involved with him and his friends (which really, I do think is very sweet! I just didn't like how a few of them made it weird & would rather just be away from those kinda vibes).
