Mental health progress doesn’t always look like a breakthrough
I think we sometimes set an impossible standard for what “getting better” is supposed to look like.
We expect the breakthrough.
The realization.
The morning where suddenly everything feels different.
But a lot of progress seems much less dramatic.
Getting out of bed slightly earlier.
Catching one negative thought before spiraling.
Taking a walk.
Responding differently during one difficult conversation.
Letting something remain unfinished without beating yourself up over it.
Having one bad day without deciding you’re back at square one.
I think those tiny changes are easy to dismiss because individually they don’t feel transformative.
But maybe that’s what actual change looks like most of the time.
