Need help to pick fuel pump brand for W211
My car is '04 E240 Automatic with M112 engine if that helps.
So it seems that my fuel pump may due soon:
- I've been hearing high-pitched noise around the rear seat, especially around 60km/h
- Short crank when the fuel tank near full, longer crank when it reaches a quarter of the tank. (So far it never failed to start)
- Happened on my last refuel, the digital fuel amount says I have 25L, I refueled it with 40L, but it only showed 49L. Couple of km later, 51L (I should've got like ~65L). It seems it stuck at 51L max because it stays at around that amount for couple of days. My assumption is when the fuel level is below 51L, the fuel gauge can work normally
What I've done:
- Replaced the other side of the pump (the one that has filter in it) due to leaking. I am using Bapmic-brand due to limited option that I had.
What I'm planning to do:
- Is to replace the whole fuel pump assembly. I know I can cut corners by replacing the pump only and reusing the housing, but it seems no widely-renowned brand that only sells the pump.
Choices of brands that I've found:
I live in Indonesia so I have limited option for brands. Here are what I've found on sale right now:
- Genuine Mercedes - 450$
- Continental/VDO - 200$ (apparently now they're the same brand? I've seen lot of VDO parts with Continental packaging)
- VDO - 157$ (for whatever reason this seller do have VDO with VDO packaging for cheaper price, maybe NOS part?)
- Delphi - 140$
- Gates - 120$
- Bapmic - 100$
- Frey - 95$
The situation:
- I know Genuine Mercedes is the best option but the price is just no brainer lol
- I believe I should've got Pierburg but I could not find one here
- Idk if I should get Continental, I mean if I could get roughly the same quality with cheaper brand, I would go that way
- Delphi is the supplier of ignition coil on my '16 BMW 5-series, and I believe some other parts are using Delphi as well. Iirc they're famous for making electronic parts, and supplier for various parts for BMWs.
- Gates is famous for being a reputable cooling system hoses manufacturer. Tbf I did not know they made fuel pump as well.
- Bapmic is, tbf, I've never heard of. They seem decent, though.
- I can skip Frey, but I'm open if someone have different opinion.
If someone can help me to pick one, that'd be appreciated. I am leaning towards Delphi or Gates, but I'm open to all suggestion. Thank you!
