Travel Hack Amex points

So I have a 4 plex that I’ve purchased. Probably about 25k-30k in material purchases needed. (Bank pays for rehab) I grabbed the Amex Gold last month and already about to complete the 100k signup bonus.

I want to use my points to travel from New Orleans to Asia summer 2027. Two round trip first class lol.

Now I’m thinking I need to grab the platinum, pay the $925 annual fee, get the 250k points to get closer to cover my flight.

I would want to cancel the platinum after one year and hold on to my gold.

Is there anything that I’m missing or a reason I should avoid this strategy? Thanks.
