For fantasy- college chosen professions-

For modern- (this is partially using an idea I have from something else)-

I worked a dead-end 9 to 5, as a desk jockey at MI6, but when all the active field agents got exposed they needed someone else to go in and get the info from the bad guys, why did that have to be me!?(If you know of the comedy movie Spy, this idea is slightly inspired by that)

Using a pill to swap into a girl my character would infiltrate perhaps an auction or something of the like, accidentally ending up as one of the the “products being sold”

For dystopian future- my character the one edited

Megacorporations weren’t a maybe they were what made the world ran. The people in those corporations making more money than one could reasonably spend ever.

The others on the streets were left with nothing. Defaulting for the 3rd time on housing my character was kicked onto the streets. Ways to make money were limited. Multiple opens having high chances of death.

There was one that didn’t though, but the cost was still more than most would pay.

Signing yourself away under a contract of ownership- you would be gene edited becoming someone’s property for anywhere from 6 months to forever. Now in a body new to you.
