Should I 3d print or use Eva foam for armor?

Hello, I am going to be making armor for my child and wanted to see if people had opinion on if it better to 3d print the armor pieces or go the route of EVA foam. I understand the lengths it takes to sand and smooth PLA, and how to plastidip and paint foam, but what is the most common build? Which do you recommend over the other?
