why ubiquiti?

Why do people buy Ubiquiti? I have a site with a switch and 2 x access points. To manage these you either need to pay a subscription fee, or buy a separate hardware controller or install their linux/windows os on a separate device. What am I missing? Managing these devices seems like such a problem when you only have a few pieces of equipment.
