What happened to the Julio-Claudians after Nero?

After the death of Nero the title of Emperor moves beyond the family and I wonder what our current knowledge is of the family after this. Surely the remaining male members of the family would have been purged or something? I do know people with the names "Julius" and "Claudius" appear later on but I don't think they actually descend from the family. What happened to them and is there any material going into depth of the family's history beyond the second century?
