Summer Cooldown ≠ The Downfall
Preface: I’m using AI to help clean this up because I know someone will notice. 😂 Yes, I know AI slop is slop. The thoughts are mine, I’m just using AI because apparently my brain likes to turn simple observations into a 10-paragraph internal monologue.
Anyway, I saw a post/graphic recently about the summer Pokémon cooldown and the recent pullback in prices. I think the idea that “the downfall” is here is a little overhyped.
Yes, prices have come down. Some cards have pulled back pretty significantly. But looking at my own collection, most of my vintage/older stuff, Pikachus, Charizards, etc. are still holding value pretty well.
I think a lot of the pullback is probably coming from cards that were simply overhyped during the run-up. Not everything that went crazy in price was going to maintain those prices forever.
The other thing I’ve noticed is sales. June and the first part of July were really good for me. After about the first week of July, things noticeably slowed down. And at this point, sales are pretty much dead compared to where they were.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean the hobby is falling apart. Markets cool off. People stop buying as aggressively. Prices come back down to more reasonable levels.
As far as long-term holds go, I’m still pretty comfortable with the cards I have. The stuff I actually want to hold—vintage, older cards, iconic Pokémon, etc.—hasn’t suddenly become worthless because the market cooled off for a month.
Everyone just needs to relax a little and enjoy the hobby. Not every price dip is the end of Pokémon. 😂
