Dental - any one had success with implants?
I found out a few weeks ago my bottom front tooth has died due to my bite causing persistent trauma. There's also a large abcess in the jawbone that's formed under the tooth. I also have a pre-molar that needs to be pulled. I met with the implant dentist this week who doesn't believe I'm a good candidate for implants because I have hEDS and two auto-immune diseases. He also mentioned that I've got receding gums and I'm losing bone mass in my jaw. He thinks I'll probably lose more teeth as time goes on and will probably need dentures or bridges to fill the gaps. I work in a public facing role, so I'm really struggling with the thought of having visible gaps in my teeth.
He's recommended 8 weeks of whitening to start - I'm not sure how this will help? Then a root canal on the dead tooth and work to shrink the abcess.
For any implant at the bottom, I would also need to have some orthodontics work which he doesn't believe will work either, he thinks the teeth will just shift back into their former positions.
Has anyone had success with implants and orthodontics work?
The dentist also recommended getting genetic testing to find out if I have a different subtype of EDS, but this isn't something generally offered where I am, so I would have to pay out of pocket. I have a family member neurosurgeons suspect has vEDS - but even they weren't pushed to have genetic testing.
