I just finished all three of the 2018 trilogy novelizations and here are some thoughts. Halloween and Halloween Kills are more or less the same as the movies. Halloween makes it a point to describe how the Myers house was torn down and replaced with a community garden which becomes a scene of a gruesome dog killing calling back to the 78 movie.

The house is of course back in Halloween Kills that Big John and Little John live in. I’m guessing the novels were based on the screenplays before the movies were finished and they decided against the house being demolished. Halloween Kills was good also but was almost exactly the same as the movie. The main difference being a little more backstory and focus on the other escape mental patient that the mob confuses for Michael.

Halloween Ends is where it gets interesting. There are a lot of would-be added scenes and backstories including the homeless man “protecting” Michael outside the sewer. Him and every other character introduced gets a little backstory which helps the whole thing feel more coherent. There is a couple more Michael kill scenes so if you felt he was lacking in the movie, that should help. It is still very much a Corey Cunningham story though so if you didn’t like him, then I guess you still won’t like the book. It definitely gives the vibe that Ends had the most rewrites and changes before filming.

Basically what I’m saying is, if Ends was 8 hours long, it’d be a better movie lol.
