Yamaha MC1204 direct out?

How to go about adding direct outs to a vintage Yamaha console? I’ve read about the pm1000 direct outs and they seem simple but idk if it would be the same for a mc1204. I’m trying to do a post eq prefader split but I’ve tried adding a op amp in there and I got no signal. Am I overcomplicating it?
